What the BETT judges said:
"SIMS meets a real need and addresses a real problem within a partnership approach... The participating schools really were enthusiastic about being involved"
The value of partnership in delivering the 14-19 Agenda was recognised at BETT 2009 when SIMS Partnership Xchange was named winner of the ICT Education Partnership category.
Capita Children’s Services worked closely with three school collaborations;
The Kingswood Partnership, The Stevenage 14-19 Partnership and The Stafford Collegiate during the development of SIMS Partnership Xchange.
The aim was to devise an answer to some of the most significant challenges posed by the 14-19 reforms:
The partnership worked for more than a year to successfully overcome this issue by sharing real-time pupil achievement and attendance information and developing a product from which all schools could potentially benefit.
"The product has been developed to help schools successfully manage the new 14-19 curriculum. One of the most significant challenges of the reforms to 14-19 education is in keeping on top of a student's progress whilst he/she are studying at multiple schools and colleges to gain his/her new qualifications."
Capita Children’s Services.
"It was a truly two-way partnership. We decided that we were going to solve this problem together. And we did."
Russell Ball, Head of Stevenage 14-19 Partnership.
"We are extremely proud to have won this award. There has been a lot of hard work from all involved and it is fantastic to see everyone getting the recognition that they deserve. SIMS Partnership Xchange was the result of this partnership and will go a long way to help schools successfully manage one of the most ambitious overhauls of the UK curriculum."
Phil Neal, Managing Director of SIMS, Capita Children’s Services
SIMS Partnership Xchange will allow schools to share standard student information such as name, address and details of any special educational needs with all schools where a student studies. If a student does not turn up for an off-site lesson that will be known Immediately and parents will be given one report from all institutions that brings together all the information on their child’s progress. Teachers' assessment marks can be shared and tutors will view which classes a student is signed up to across the partnership or where they are meant to be at any given time.
The result is a real-world answer to the real-world issues that all 14-19 schemes will face. It's why, if you are looking to learn from the Pilot Schemes and looking for a partner for successful launch, you cannot do better than to talk SIMS today.
